With the recent increase of Covid cases, the JVSO Board of Directors and Steering Committee have turned to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) for guidelines on how to proceed as an organization. As of July 21, 2021, the CDC has provided the following recommendation for fully vaccinated individuals:
“To maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission.”
Unfortunately, Harris County is presently considered an area of severe and uncontrolled as a Level 1 (Severe Threat):
"Level 1 signifies a severe and uncontrolled level of COVID-19 in Harris County, meaning outbreaks are present and worsening and public health capacity is strained or exceeded .At this level, unvaccinated residents take action to minimize contact with others wherever possible and avoid leaving home except for the most essential needs like going to the grocery store for food and medicine. Unvaccinated individuals should continue to mask, physical distance, and avoid all gatherings. Vaccinated individuals follow the latest local public health guidance on whether to also wear a mask while indoors in public places, in crowded outdoor settings, and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated."
Given the above, we are encouraging all members to wear masks for indoor programs. We will take every effort to provide a safe environment but will need your assistance in reducing the spread of this virus by wearing a mask. Hopefully, things will improve and our need to be so guarded will be lessened. In the meantime, we will continue to monitor closely the recommendations the CDC and local officials provide to assist us in our decision making.
