Set in 1970, the film stars Paul Giamatti as a strict classics teacher at a New England boarding school who is forced to chaperone a handful of students with nowhere to go on the Christmas break. He soon forms an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged troublemaker and with the school's head cook, a woman who just lost a son in the Vietnam War. It was named one of the top 10 films of 2023.

"The Holdovers" is rated R primarily due to its frequent use of strong language, some drug use depicted on screen, and brief sexual content, making it inappropriate for younger audiences.
